Here are some answers to common questions about OnScreen Counselling

General

What is OnScreen counselling?

OnScreen counselling is the trading name for a company of counsellors who provide video counselling to the public.

Who will be supporting me?

You will have the opportunity to choose a therapist who you feel is right for you and he/she will support you. You can ask the OnScreen Counselling team for support and advice if you need assistance to choose a counsellor. If you need more help, please contact us on enquiries@onscreencounselling.com.

Is OnScreen Counselling a proper substitute for a more traditional face-to-face therapy?

The simple answer is that this is a different process and is more psycho-educational and not for individuals in severe distress. With Zoom, our online video call software, with a good connection, it can feel as if you are in the same room. If you have any enquiries please feel free to contact us on enquiries@onscreencounselling.com or by phone on 07538119644.

How does it work?

If you are looking for a counsellor, you can search here by gender or topic. You choose your counsellor and check their availability. You book a ten minute free consultation with your chosen counsellor using their calendar. This calendar will show their availability. The counsellor will contact you to confirm. During the initial consultation, if you are both happy with the arrangement, you can then book your next full length session, which you can secure via payment with PayPal.

Payments

How much does it cost?

Each counsellor will set their own rate per session, with a minimum of £35 per session. Payment is via PayPal.

Can I use my insurance to pay for my treatment?

We are not currently registered with any insurance companies, but this may change in the future.

Do you offer concessions?

We do not currently offer concessions.

Will my counsellor be available for me in a crisis?

Counselling is a regular appointment at a set time with someone who has your best interest at heart and is building a rapport and relationship with you, helping you to achieve your goals. They are there to listen to your concerns, but not necessarily able to help in an emergency. Depending on the crisis, if you cannot wait to speak to your counsellor, we advise calling your GP or calling 111.

What hardware and software do I need?

Computer, laptop or tablet with and a reliable Internet connection. Zoom does not require you to create an account or download anything onto your computer. It is also available to use with variable bandwiths, including low bandwiths which makes it more reliable than other videocall software.

Appointment

How long before I can confirm an appointment?

You will be able to instantly confirm an appointment.

How can I be sure that this is effective for me?

This is seen as a process, and in order to see the maximum benefits you must attend all 6 sessions.

How many sessions do I need to book?

Initially you will book 6 sessions as agreed by your counsellor.

Will I have the same therapist throughout my sessions?

Yes.

Can I speak with my therapist before my session?

Yes, you will have a 10 minute consultation before your sessions commence.

How do I communicate with my therapist if I have to change my times?

Through email.

Will I get a discount if I book and pay for sessions in advance?

We do not currently offer discounts for paying in advance.

Are there any formalities or requirements? I.e. GP, Medication or any other health conditions

This will be addressed during your initial consultation, ensuring everything remains confidential.

Where are you based?

The UK.

What about confidentiality?

Your therapist is bound by ethical guidelines to keep what you say in your sessions confidential. Although our site is secure, we cannot guarantee that every videocall session is 100% confidential due to the nature of the Internet. We use Zoom videocalling software which has a higher standard of confidentiality than other software such as Skype. It used by the couples counselling organisation Relate for their online work.

What if I am not happy with my therapist?

Hopefully during your initial assessment you will have built a rapport and if there are any conflicts of interests you will have the option to change at the end of the 6 sessions. You may want to bring up your feelings about your therapist with them in a session, as this could be a valuable part of the process.

How many sessions will I need?

Six initial sessions, and further sessions can be discussed with your counsellor.

How long and how much are the sessions?

Each session will be 50 minutes, the rates are explained above under ‘Payments’.

What should I expect from the sessions?

A professional service maintaining confidentiality and an opportunity to explore your feelings and concerns.

Is there a cancellation policy?

Cancellation within 48 hours will incur full charges, however prior cancellations will not be charged.
